Wikipedia, March 6, 2019 (Adolphe Thiers; Marie Joseph Louis Adolphe Thiers; born 15 April 1797, Bouc-Bel-Air, France; died 3 September 1877, Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France; French statesman and historian; second elected President of France, and first President of the French Third Republic; he was a key figure in the July Revolution of 1830 and the French Revolution of 1848, which established the Second French Republic; served as prime minister in 1836, 1840 and 1848; when the Paris Commune seized power in March 1871, Thiers gave orders to the army for its supression; named President of the Republic by the French National Assembly in August 1871; author of a successful 10-volume history of the French Revolution, and a 20-volume history of the Consulate and Empire of Napoleon Bonaparte; elected to the Académie Française in 1834)
